Description
Lovely as an early flowering shrub, but the real treat is when it bears fruit: juicy, sweet and distinctive in flavor. This variety is grown from the seed of ‘Smoky’ and they seem exactly the same as the parent. The shrubs can grow tall (up past 12 ft) but I’ve had no trouble keeping mine much lower with an annual pruning (after fruit). Very cold hardy.
Amelanchier alnifolia is the botanical name.
