Description
The ‘Queen Elizabeth’ rose is a grandiflora variety known for its upright growth habit, reaching heights of 4-6 feet and spreading 2-3 feet wide. It produces showy, fragrant double blooms that are silver-pink in color, ranging from 2 to 4 inches in diameter, and they appear singly or in long-stemmed clusters from May to frost.
Introduced by Dr. Walter Lammerts in 1954, ‘Queen Elizabeth’ has been widely acclaimed, winning the “World’s Favorite Rose” award in 1979. Its heritage is a cross between R. ‘Charlotte Armstrong’ and R. ‘Floradora’, making it notable for its nearly thornless stems and good disease resistance, especially in comparison to other roses that might require more care and attention to prevent common rose diseases. The ‘Queen Elizabeth’ rose is ideal as an accent or grouped in borders, foundations, cottage gardens, or rose gardens due to its stunning blooms and elegant stature.
