Description
The Eden rose, also known as ‘Pierre de Ronsard’, ‘MEIviolin’, and ‘Eden Rose 85’, is a beautifully romantic climbing rose introduced by Marie-Louise Meilland in France in 1985. This cultivar is a part of the Renaissance® Collection and was named after the French Renaissance poet Pierre de Ronsard. It showcases large, old-fashioned, cup-shaped blossoms that are creamy white turning to delicate pink, with each flower comprising up to 70 petals. The blooms open from light green buds, creating a stunning visual effect.
The Eden rose can grow to a considerable height of 100 to 365 cm (approximately 39 inches to 12 feet) and spreads about 1.8 meters (5.9 feet) wide. It features dark green, semi-glossy foliage with very few prickles, making it somewhat unique among roses. This rose is celebrated for its hardiness (USDA zones 5b through 9b), heat and rain tolerance, and disease resistance. It performs best with ample sunlight and a good nutrient supply. The Eden rose was ahead of its time upon introduction, but it has since become one of the most well-known nostalgic roses, even being voted the World’s Favourite Rose by the World Federation of Rose Societies in 2006.
