Description
This one is not thornless. That’s the thing about old roses – their identities can be obscured over time. Alfred Colomb was introduced some 130 years ago, but it there were also some other very good roses released around the same time that have similar flowers. This is probably one of those look-alikes. I see some varying descriptions of Alfred, but most have the rose as nearly thornless. This one is just an average thorny old rose displaying excellent red flowers with scalloped edges and a strong fragrance. It was sold to me as Alfred Colomb so I keep it listed under that name, or more precisely as “in the trade as Alfred Colomb”.
