Description
Osmunda regalis ‘Purpurascens’, commonly known as the purple-tinged royal fern, is a robust, deciduous fern with an upright, vase-shaped growth habit. In spring, its fronds emerge with a reddish-purple hue, maturing to bright green in summer, and transitioning to shades of gold and russet in the fall. Mature plants typically reach a height and spread of 2 to 4 feet (60 to 120 cm). This fern thrives in partial to full shade and prefers fertile, humus-rich, consistently moist, well-drained soils. It is well-suited for shady beds and borders, woodland gardens, bog gardens, and areas along streams or ponds. Hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9, ‘Purpurascens’ is tolerant of wet soils and resistant to rabbits.
Sold well-rooted in a tall 9cm pot.
