Description

Calamagrostis × acutiflora ‘Lightning Strike’ is a cool-season, clump-forming ornamental grass celebrated for its striking variegated foliage. The leaves display broad, creamy white central stripes edged with green, creating a luminous effect in the landscape. In late spring to early summer, sturdy stems rise above the foliage, bearing feathery plumes that emerge green, transition through shades of pink and purple, and mature to a golden tan. These flower heads persist into winter, adding seasonal interest. Mature plants typically reach a height of 3 feet (90 cm) and spread about 2 feet (60 cm). ‘Lightning Strike’ thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils. It is hardy in USDA zones 4 through 10 and is noted for its drought tolerance once established. This variety is also deer and rabbit resistant, making it a low-maintenance choice for borders, mass plantings, or as a specimen plant.
