Description
Aralia cordata ‘Sun King’, commonly known as Golden Japanese Spikenard, is a fast-growing, herbaceous perennial prized for its large, compound leaves that emerge in a vibrant golden-yellow hue. The foliage color is most pronounced when the plant receives partial sun; in deeper shade, the leaves may adopt a more chartreuse or lime-green tone. In mid to late summer, ‘Sun King’ produces clusters of tiny white flowers, which are followed by deep purplish-black, inedible berries. Mature plants typically reach a height and spread of 3 feet (91 cm). This variety thrives in part shade to full shade and prefers moist, well-drained, organically rich soil. Hardy in USDA zones 3 through 9, ‘Sun King’ is deer-resistant and serves as an excellent complement to hostas and other woodland perennials.
Sold well-rooted in a tall 9cm pot.
