Description

Ajuga ‘Fancy Finch’ is a low-growing, evergreen perennial with small, dense rosettes of tri-colored foliage in gold, bronze, and green. It forms a spreading mat that reaches about 4 to 6 inches in height with flowers and up to 18 inches wide. In spring, it produces cobalt-blue flower spikes that contrast against the warm-toned leaves. This variety thrives in part to full shade and adapts to a range of soil conditions, preferring moist, well-drained sites but tolerating some dryness once established. It can handle full sun in cooler climates if provided with adequate moisture. As a groundcover, ‘Fancy Finch’ suppresses weeds, stabilizes soil, and provides year-round texture and color. Its dense growth supports beneficial insects while requiring little maintenance. Because it stays low and spreads without overwhelming surrounding plants, it makes an excellent companion for roses, helping to unify plantings and add visual interest at ground level. Hardy to USDA Zone 4.
